What is High School Rodeo?
The Indiana High School Rodeo Association is one of 41 states, 5 Canadian Provinces and Australia that make up the National High School Rodeo Association. The ISHRA is a non-profit, family oriented organization. It is for students that attend an Indiana High School or are home schooled and have the desire to participate in the sport of Rodeo.
The mission of the organization along with the NHSRA, is to promote a positive image of rodeos, preserve the western heritage and maintain the highest regard for the livestock. To introduce members and their families to the sport of rodeo and provide a fun and safe environment for young cowboys and cowgirls to develop skills to last them a lifetime.
Indiana High School rodeo is not only a sport for the youth but a family that bonds together to see that we play a part in the development of our children's future.
While rodeo is not recognized as a regular high school varsity sport, no other athletic activity in history has ever been developed which so embodies the traditions and history of an entire way of life. The events in rodeo grew out of the actual day to day duties of the American cowboy and were developed t further test the courage, stamina and ability of westerners. The cowboy or cowgirl and animals used in rodeo compete against themselves and the clock, as much as they compete against each other.
in summary, the IHSRA provides the unique opportunity for Indiana youth to participate in one of the most rewarding sports experience available anywhere and you don't have to be born in the saddle to be involved.
How can High School Rodeo Help continued:?
The sport of rodeo encourages anyone of these young athletes to perform to his or her highest potential and to realize their dreams. As for the kid who would rather ride a horse or throw a rope than a baseball, football, or basketball, there are so many opportunities for him or her. Several of our own high school rodeo students have gone on to receive full ride rodeo scholarships to colleges all over the nation. This just gives our kids in our community another chance to receive a college education on a different kind of level. See what junior rodeo is about.
